Many people don't realize that tithing is in obedience to God, and you tithe to the ministries that speak into your life. The test in Malachi was about God continuitng to provide for you if you would obey Him in the tithe, and truthfully it really works. Those that tithe are financialy stable, so it helps the tither as much or more than the ministry. The other rejoicing and poor tithes, I think are smart that we plan for vacations and other events surrounding the Lord and we save for those so that we can afford to have those refreshing times with ourselves and families. Our government takes a big chunk to give to the poor alreay if you work, you know this is true, but God will still use you to give to the poor and bless you for it, when you obey His Spirit when He tells you to. I think the biggest miss with the people of God is they get tripped up in judging the ministry, and expect them to do everything, and the congregation does see it's part in giving outside the tithe. Poeple may get resentful about giving and think the ministry needs to give to the poor out of the 10% they give, but it is not, it was for the rest of the people of God to be part of the benevolence of society. We have a God given role to give, and God supports us in being that flow thru to show His love. Everyone can sacrifice 10%, and if you can't you are thinking about your self too much, and not honoring God with your giving. Test God with obeying him in the ministry tithe. Save for God centered vacations, and be open for God to lead you hear and there to give to the poor, and you'll be suprised at what He does with your life, He'll get you're life together financially, and change your heart about loving people in giving. He'll take care of you to, but sometimes you won't see it, until you step out in faith. It's a walk of faith we must walk, and God will supply you along the way, and bless you to be a blessing.

Yes, I think recession in the US is not over yet and the situation could get even serious. That's why consumers will look for different ways to cut down on un-necessary expenses and save their money. The tips you have shared are really practical and excellent, and it's good many Americans are implementing it.

A lot of people get hung-up on the fact that Roth IRAs have no tax deductibility when the contribution is made and might avoid participating. But if you factor in the fact that after 59.5 you will 1) pay zero taxes on withdrawals, and 2) unlike other qualified retirement plans, there are no minimum required distributions, the whole game changes. Anyone who can (within the income limits) participate in a Roth IRA should.

[...] It’s no surprise that few Americans believe economists when they say the recession is over. Economic growth may be back, but American’s wealth is not. That’s why Americans are still looking for ways of saving money. [...]

@Matt,
|| "If the Law has no value in New Testament giving, why did Paul quote the Law to defend many of the New Testament teachings he taught?" ||
That is one of the simple questions I have long waited for anti-tithers to address - but no, they shy away from such questions for obvious reasons.
When someone argues prematurely against the Law by condemning it out of hand, he is left with absolutely nothing in his defence for some of the assertions he makes. Those who condemn tithing simply because it is contained in the Law will not apply the same rule to condemn other things that are contained in the Law and yet practised in their own Christianity. That kind of hermeneutics is not helpful and only cheats those who reason that way.

Great article! I can not agree more with the author. We are all guilty of making all of those financial mistakes. Older we get and closer to our retirement, more we realized how much money we waisted before on meaningless things. Thanks for posting! It's greatly appreciated!

Ok, so you don't have to put in your SSN # so in other words anyone has access to your credit report/score if they know your email address, your home address & some basic financial information. Way too easy for those looking to steal your identity or to look at your personal information that have absolutely no business looking at your information (such as a family member or a so called friend)

The New Testament teaches proportional,equal giving within the Church.(1 Corithians 16:1,2/2 Corithians 8:13-15) How is this done except by the standard of the tithe presented throughout the Bible? Are you suggesting that each man does what seems right in his own eyes?(Judges 17:6) If the Law has no value in New Testament giving, why did Paul quote the Law to defend many of the New Testament teachings he taught?

Am now officially a contra-tithing advocate!! Praise God. It feels so great to be a slave to righteousness, only. "Where the Spirit of the Lord is there is freedom. My money is now flowing freely, indeed. This being said, I believe I will soon be asked to step down from my position as deacon. This, of course, is ok with me. Let the Truth reign supreme!!
